(Traffic Tip #6) Submit your website to Search Engines

by on March 6, 2009

There are thousands of search engines but the reality is that most of
them are not being used by a lot of people and these not-so-popular
search engines get most of their results from main search engines such
as Google, Yahoo, AOL and MSN or Live.

So before you go crazy
submitting your website to thousands of not-so-popular sites, its
better to just focus on the main ones because eventually, the
not-so-popular ones will pick up the results from these important sites
and you will show up on their results as well.

How to submit your site

Assuming
that you followed my previous tips, means that you are ready to put
your site out there for others to find you. Here are the urls where to
submit your site to the main 3 search engines

Oh and if this website is a blog, you MUST MUST MUST submit it to Techonorati. This is like the Google of Blogs.

Once you submit your site to these search engines, they will be on the list for them to crawl. (remember crawling? Google’s messenger?) this can take weeks to do but it will get done, and yes, it will show up on Google results but it will take time before this happens.

Check if your site has been Crawled

After a few weeks, go to each search engine and check if your site has been crawled. to do this just type in your URL in the search box.  If your site appears, then yes, your site has been crawled so welcome! you are officially a participant on the race to appear on the first page on the search results.  If your site hasn’t been crawled, don’t submit it again! your site was received the first time and it WILL GET CRAWLED! patience is a virtue! Also, you might want to look at your site and do a little review as why it is not showing up. Maybe you don’t have enough content, search engines LOVE sites with tons of useful unique content! so keep adding it and it will eventually get crawled.
